I have been Dean of Education at Hofstra University on Long Island for 12 years. In the Fall of 2005, I stepped down as Dean, took a semester leave and am now exploring other opportunities. Like some of you, I suspect I am not quite ready to retire. Since the last reunion we have two more grandchildren, whom we dearly enjoy. We also enjoy being able to say to ourselves after a visit--"Been there. Done that!"  We had so much fun at the last reunion, can't wait for this one!"

Update 8/02/11: After retiring from Hofstra University in 2005, I was in retirement mode for three years. I completely failed that! I continued to explore other opportunities and in 2008 accepted the position as Dean of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. I commute home to my wife Anne on weekends or she joins me in Gettysburg. I look forward to doing a better job in retirement the second time. I'm at the point that many of my former students are retiring. That tells me something! Hope some of you can advise me on how to do it right the second time around!!

After graduation, I went to PSU in McKeesport and was majoring in French. By the end of my freshman year I married Jim Georg (BHS class of 1960). We moved to State College where Jim completed his degree. By the time he graduated we had one daughter and another on the way.

After several years working in Cincinnati, Ohio Jim was transferred to the Phila area. That's where we had our third daughter. It is also where I went back to PSU this time in Media ,Pa. We lived in Downingtown, Pa for 35 years.

After graduation, I joined a bank as a teller eventually working my way up to an SVP for a large regional bank. When there was one too many mergers for my tummy, I elected to retire with 25 years service. Jim retired from the insurance game a year later.

Since that time , we have moved to Vermont. We ski every other day during the winter and hang glide or kayak in the summer. We have 2 grandchildren, a grandson age 17 and a granddaughter age 23. We are expecting twin grandchildren in January.

We each have a consulting business just to keep our minds active. We welcome hearing from classmates especially any who like to ski in Vermont.

Update: 08/15/11: Since I posted my profile, we lost our twin grandchildren. We are blessed with the two grandchildren we do have. Our granddaughter lives in Alaska and is now 29. She is enrolled in a doctoral program in Psychology. Our grandson is now 22 and a recent graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology. He accepted a job working for the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

I hope you all enjoy the 50th reunion!

Have lived in Virginia for 32 years and love the weather.  I can't imagine ever going back to all that cold and snow.  We still have property in Bethel and Nottingham which we are going to be selling.  All my family is in Richmond except my sister, Sherry.  She and Dale Wissman live in Upper St. Clair...they also graduated from Bethel in "62 and '64.

My dad lived with me in Richmond for about 9 years but a year ago we moved him to an assisted living facility close by. He will be 92 year old at the end of February 2006.

I was married for 25 years but have been divorced for the last 15.  I have two grown children; a son Craig (41) and a daughter Dana who is 36.  And I am a proud grandmother of five, 2 boys and 3 girls; 12, 10, 8, 6 and 3.  My son lives in Richmond only a mile from me and Dana lives in Northern Virginia (a two hour drive).  We have lots of big family gatherings.

I worked at Reynolds Metals Company for over 11 years and took an early retirement package when they were bought by Alcoa.  Now I have my Real Estate license; so I am not really retired.

Went back to college and completed my Bachelors degree in Business at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA in 1990, where I lived 15 years ago before moving to Richmond.

I had a great time at the 40th reunion and look forward to seeing you all again in September.

Update: 5/21/2011: I moved to Vienna, VA in Feb. 2011 after have total knee replacement on both knees in January 2011. Last year I had back surgery to fuse L4 and L5 vertebrae. I have sold my home in Richmond, VA and built a beautiful space onto my daughters home in Vienna, VA. Now I get to see two of my 5 grandchildren every day. I lived close to my son in Richmond and spend a lot of time with his 3 children for 20 years. I love the Lord and He has been very good to me. I have never remarried or even dated. Family is the most important thing to me. I do work part-time, and am presently looking for something in Northern Virginia. Would love to hear from any of you, if any of you live close to D. C. maybe we could get together and catch up. I am looking forward to our 50 reunion in September. See you then.

I was a first grade teacher, then stayed home to be a mom for ten years. I returned to education, and have been working part time for the past twenty years as a substitute teacher at Independence Middle School in Bethel Park.

My husband, Jack, and I will celebrate our fortieth wedding anniversary in August. Our daughter, Cathey, lives in the Pittsburgh area, and our son, Michael, an interventional cardiologist, lives in Springfield, Illinois.  Our five granddaughters, ages 5,3, 3, 2 and 1, keep us very busy.

During the summer months I spend as many days as I can on the golf course. Since 1985, I have been a member of the ValleyBrook ladies golf team....I am still waiting for that hole-in-one! Grace (Ganter) Anderson and I often play together.......I don't think she has had a hole-in-one yet, but her husband has!

Update April 21, 2011

I have truly enjoyed working on the 50th Reunion Committee with Judy, Sue, Grace, Linda, Marian, Betty Lou and Nancy Jo. We all agree that the years have passed much too quickly, and since our campus high school will be replaced in 2012 by a new building, our meetings have given us a great opportunity to reminisce about our teenage years! No one should worry about an Alzheimers, diagnosis for ANYONE on the committeeeach gal can easily recall vivid memories and the smallest details about the good old days at BPHS in the late 1950s!

Not much has changed since I wrote a few words about myself five years ago.
I am still working as a substitute teacher at Independence Middle School, and I have no plans to retire from my wonderful job. Playing golf full-time would the only alternative, and that would be much more stressful than teaching 7th and 8th grade students. I should, however, list two changes to my profile: we have a new email address: jackandjoanie@comcast.net...and.....in 2009 I was lucky enough to have a Hole-In-One.

In August, Jack and I will celebrate our forty-fifth anniversary. In 1962 we met at St. Francis College (now renamed St. Francis University) at a dance featuring Porky Chedwick music. We both have never outgrown our love for the Oldies, and on most days we have the songs of the past playing at home or in our cars.

I am looking forward to our Big Five-OH Reunion in September!

Aging, defined as a natural process, can be alarming when you reach this mark!  45 years since we marched through those hallowed halls?  We've watched our children also graduate from BPHS and will most likely cheer on our grandchildren there, should we be blessed to do so.

Ed and I have lived in Bethel Park all our lives and will celebrate our 42nd anniversary this April.  We have a daughter, Laura (34), and a son, Jeff (29), two grandsons, Robbie, (10) and Carson (4).  The boys keep us involved in many of their activities, which we thoroughly enjoy.

Watercolors have been my passion for years now and I currently serve as president of the Bethel Artist Guild along with serving on various committees at our church. Ed doesn't think that retirement is an option for him yet, so we simply pretend that we're still in our 30's.

My parents, at an even riper age, still live in the house I grew up in and need our attention more and more.  It's what you've heard called the "Sandwich Generation"? However, they remain a strong inspiration to us.

We look forward to again greeting and seeing all of you in September.

As some of you will remember I left BPHS in the 10th grade, moved to Baldwin and shortly thereafter quit school and got married. I divorced and moved to South Florida in 1973.

I have worn many hats over the years and in 1980 became a nurse and continued to work in various aspects of nursing. I am retired at present although seeking a (very small) home business. I moved to South Carolina last year and built a small home 10 miles from Hilton Head. I have 2 children, Brian and Linda. Brian is in Pittsburgh and Linda is in S. Florida. I have 3 granddaughters, 13,10 and 7.

Somehow over the years I have been adopted by the reunion committee and have attended one reunion. I missed the last one due to 9/11. I plan to attend this year and am really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi Everyone!
Well, since graduating from Bethel Park, I attended Slippery Rock State College and received a degree in Health and Physical Education, and a degree in Special Education for Physically Handicapped.  I taught at Penn Hills High School, created and coached their girl's swim team. Left there to marry Ron Sopata, in Hawaii.

Lived and taught on Molokai Island until Ron finished his tour of duty in Thailand.  Moved to Guam for a couple of years, where I taught at George Washington High School, (mostly students from the surrounding Micronesean Islands).  Moved back to USA and returned to Slippery Rock to work on my masters degree while Ron completed his undergrad work in Health and P.E. Taught in Greensborough, Pa. We moved to Penn Hills, Pa.  where he coached gymnastics, and I taught until the birth of our twin girls, Kimberly and Lisa.  We taught there a few years and then moved to Colorado Springs, Co.  From there he re-entered the Air Force, and we moved to San Antonio, TX.  We led the typical military life, moving every couple of years to many places: England, Illinois, Texas, Colorado and the Air Force Academy, to name a few.  We had a third daughter, Cindy, in 1982.

We separated in 1992, and I moved to Charlotte, N.C. where I taught at Parkwood Middle School for 13 years.  I just retired this past June, and have moved to a retirement community near Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.  I'm loving our gorgeous home and retirement. I am keeping busy decorating the house, and yes, SWIMMING.  I am still very involved in the sport, and teaching.

I am the proud grandmother of a four year old grandson, and an almost two year old grand- daughter. One twin daughter is a professional flutist, the other a scientist.  My youngest is in theater arts, acting, sewing costumes, doing lighting. etc.

Update 9/4/11:
Sorry I wont be at the fiftieth class reunion tonight. Ill miss seeing all of you. Responsibilities beyond my control wont allow me to leave.

I am living in Sun City Hilton head, Riverbend Community. Its a great life during most of the year, just very hot in August. Winter is lovely, no snow. I am healthy and well. The life here gives every opportunity to swim, golf, bike, play tennis, or what ever you choose to do. I do feel very fortunate.

I have only two grandchildren, Daniel nine years old, and Kiran seven years old. Two of my daughters live in Chicago, and the third lives in Springfield, Ma.

Id love to hear about the reunion.

Marge

Update: June 12, 2011
I attended Penn State University for 3 years and married Bill Kirkey (BHS '59). He worked for the DuPont Co. so we moved several times. I graduated from U. of Tennessee in 1973. I taught elementary school and kindergarten most of my career, but did a stint as an office manager and paralegal at one point, also. I retired from The Westtown School in 1999 in order to do daycare for my daughter's three kids. Bill and I raised a son, Stephen (SMU '88) and a daughter, Heather (PSU '90). Our daughter and son-in-law are parents to our three grandchildren: Mike (age 17), Lauren (age 15) and Sean (age 12). Bill is now retired and we spend 3 months each winter in Florida where he plays golf. We enjoy traveling, reading, exercising, swimming, and watching our grandkids play sports (Mike will be the QB of his h.s. team this fall; Lauren just got back from Penn State's Happy Volley volleyball tournament, and Sean plays baseball and football in youth leagues). I also do a lot of volunteer work. I am a Stephen Leader, organizing our church's program of lay ministers, a Stephen Minister myself, a hospital visitor with the Chaplain's programs, and I visit the shut-ins in our area and in Florida. I also do some volunteer tutoring, work with Salvation Army and take my turn serving "snack supper" to the youth of our church on Sunday evenings. I enjoyed our last reunion and am very sorry that a conflict in my schedule will keep me from our 50th reunion.

Hi everyone! I went to work right out of high school for an Engineering Company in downtown Pittsburgh -- and then the Water Company. I have been happily married to "Harry" since 1964. His construction job took us to Greenville (halfway between Erie and Pittsburgh) when our daughter, Becky, was 1 year old (1969). In 1970 we had  a son, Dan, who is a Computer Software Engineer and lives in Penn Hills area of Pittsburgh. Between the two children we have 3 wonderful granddaughters, Cassie,16,
Corynn, 9 and little Kiersten, 3.  I have been secretary to Maintenance director at Thiel College for past 15 years; and plan to retire in a couple years. My husband is a retired Union carpenter. He was having knee problems so retirement became necessary. He recently had bi-lateral knee replacement and is doing very well.  We look forward to camping and traveling this summer in our mini-motor home. And since our daughter and her family now live in Greencastle, Pa (near Chambersburg)-- that will be first on our travel agenda. I have kept in contact with Sandy Ellis--who I see is on the board now. (Hey Sandy--where is your profile?) God has been good-- we are blessed with good health and a wonderful family.  Hope to see your smiling faces--- maybe even in September!

Update 9/1/11: Good day to you all--- hope you enjoyed the 50th reunion. So sorry to have missed it--- but this was the summer of our big trip west in our RV. (have been retired 3 years now--- and is getting gooder and gooder!) We are in Washington State as we speakplan to head down the coast after Labor Day and then start east thru Grand Canyon and Vegas. It has been a wonderful opportunity to see such beautiful places--- but havent seen any place quite as green as Pennsylvania. There is no place like Homeand looking forward to getting back probably first week of October. And then will re-group for trip south for winter. Hope all of you are well, healthy and enjoying blessings only Lord can give. Maybe see you in 2016 God willing?? Sounds so far awaybut time flies by, doesnt it?

My first marriage lasted 17 years. My second marriage is now in it's 23rd year. It's been a great ride.  We just returned to Michigan after a 7 1/2 year vacation in Florida. My husband retired in 1994. The hurricanes in 2004 had me packing my bags and getting out of Dodge. We are both pleased to be back in Michigan

After graduating from Bethel, I, along with several other classmates, went to Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV. If you all recall, Bethel Hi School was designed to acclimate us with a campus style environment. Well at Morris Harvey all the classrooms were in one building(1,200 students). So much for that adjustment !!! Upon graduating in 1965 I returned to Bethel, and went to work for U.S. Steel at the Homestead Works, which is now a shopping mall. Not liking shift work, I tried retailing, and became a dept. manager for J.C.Penney, who transferred me to the Richmond, Va. area from Mansfield, Ohio. Shortly thereafter I changed occupations and went to work for the Va. Dept. of Mental Health as an accountant. I have been a "public servant" for over 36 years, and currently the Director of Cost Accounting for the same Agency. Although I do not agree with his politics, I am being considered for an appointment to the current Governor's staff. I tried marriage but am not compatible with Southern Belle's. I have 3 children; David (40) is a military pilot in Spokane WA. He is married and
has two children. Kristi (29) just completed her Master's Degree in Nursing from THE University of Virginia. She works in the burn/trauma unit at the U. VA Medical Center. My youngest son (27) is my namesake, but goes by Bubba. He is in the roofing business, and his lifestyle is fitting of his nickname. We enjoy all sports, especially slow-pitch softball, motorcycles, NASCAR, and the Steelers. In closing, I am looking forward to attending the 45th reunion.  PS: Unlike Joyce Lang, I have never adjusted to the weather in Richmond. It is too humid.

In the fall of 1961 I joined several other Bethel Park classmates and attended Penn State University.  Sue Finch and I were sorority sisters and spent four years being Nittany Lions fans.  After graduation I taught at Upper St. Clair and married my husband, John, whom I met at Penn State.  We were stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC prior to Johns orders to Viet Nam. During Johns tour of duty in Viet Nam, I returned to Pittsburgh and had the unique opportunity to teach for a year at BPHS with some of our favorite people, like Mr. Jolley, Mr. Kuhla and Mr. Reno.  With their help and support I made it through what would have otherwise been a very tough year with John overseas.

In 1968 we settled in Mr. Lebanon.  We have two children, John, who lives in Seattle, and Katie who lives on NYC (but who still cheer for the Steelers).  We have three grandsons and one granddaughter and wish they all lived closer.

While working on my masters at Penn State, I ran into Joan Milewski Kelley, and to no ones surprise, the two of us continued to get into trouble for talking during class.

After 18 years teaching Home Economics in the Mt. Lebanon School District (yes, Im another Mary Alice Stitt), I went back to graduate school again for a second certification, and became the Coordinator of Gifted Services for eleven years in Mt. Lebanon.

John and I both retired in 2006 and split our time between Pittsburgh and Naples, FL.  We thought retirement would mean more free time but I think were busier than ever!

I'm realizing that this note will be beside a photo of me from 1961..a quiet, shy, a little scared young girl. That was hell!! I'm a protesting malcontent, daily shaking my head wondering how did we get here? How did they elect him not once, but twice? How are parents younger than we standing for their daughters and sons to be sent off to kill and be killed? I do protest..against Bushy, Cheney and Rummy, Wal-Mart, war, RICK SANTOREM, unscrupulous business practices. And protest for life choices,  stewardship of our good earth, Somali refugees making a new home in the burgh, poor Guatamalan women starting their business and educating themselves. But I am peaceful too..I meditate, plant flowers and don't shoot the possums and rabbits and deer that eat off the tender buds (in the middle of Squirrel Hill!), take long city walks with my dog Snoop (good name for a psychologist's dog). Yeah, I'm one of those boring
bloody liberals who can't get it together to make a new way work. My dream is to return to live in Ireland again where the fighting has nearly been confined to the pubs and the air is sweet. I won't be attending the reunion, I'll be in Japan, but have a good one!

I was married in 1963 to Tom Warren and we immediately moved to the Maryland area. We had 4 beautiful children. Sandy is 41, Christine is 40, Kathleen is 34, and Jeffery is 32. I have 8 wonderful grandchildren. Caroline 14, Matthew 13, Ashley 11, Chelsea 10, Troy 6, Jason 4, Peyton 3, Campbell 1. Wow we have been busy. Tom died and I have remarried to Bob Mackey. He retired from NSA about 9 years ago and I finally retired
this year to join him in taking care of our 4 acres outside of Annapolis. We love it here and enjoy golf together. Look forward to seeing everyone at the 45th.

Hi, Everyone !!! I have not been to a class reunion EVER !!!  Look at what I've missed...

My husband and I have been married for 44 years and at last count have three grown children ,six grandchildren, two aging catboys and one wonderful grand-dog.  Am sure many of you can relate. We have had numerous moves around the country and yet have lived in Minnesota for the last 25 years.  It has become home to us. Seeing so many of your pictures really takes me "back when" ... Almost seems like a fairy tale.
Thanks to each one for gathering us all together. See you in September.

Updated June, 2011:
Jim and I have four children: Reese, Michael, Carrie and Colleen. We also have six of the most fantastic grandchildren: Brendyn, a Junior in College; Ryan, a senior in High School; Paul (PJ) 13;Kyle, 9 and Savanna, the Little Princess is 2; and her baby brother Camden, 2 Months.

I stayed home with my children until they were in school. I taught Elementary School as a Long Term Substitute then decided to work for the Government in the Human Relations Department in the College Relations Office at the Census Bureau. After working for Census six years I changed careers and went to work for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters International Union as an Administrative Assistant and retired in 2006.

I try and stay active by swimming five days a week all year round. Meeting with friends for lunch or dinner. And of course helping out with the Grandchildren. Jim and I have done some traveling both here and in Canada and Ireland.

After High School, I joined the Marine Corps and served until December 1965.  I returned to Bethel Park and attended Penn State at MacKeesport and later married Karen Johnson.  I worked at Rust Engineering for 4 years before getting my accounting degree from Point Park.  I then took a job as a Special Agent, US Treasury in Houston, Texas. I retired from the Treasury in 1999. Karen Johnson/Scudder and I divorced in 1989.  I married a Texas woman, Dottie, two years later. I have two step children and 4 step grandchildren. We live on 30 acres with a few cows and a great
fishing lake.  I restore old military vehicles and show them.  I work part time doing background investigations for the Department of Defense, but most of my time is spent working on our property and "messing" with old military vehicles.

Joined the Marine Corps in February, 1961 along with Mike Scudder, Butch Ryder, Rich Edgell and Tom Vogel. I was lucky enough to serve on the Presidential Honor Guard for JFK for 30 months. Discharged in June, 1965. Came to Kansas City for the weekend July, 1965; the weekend has lasted 41 years. After a 6 week courtship, married my wife on New Years Eve, 1966.  Five years later, Norma and I had our first son. One year later, our twin boys were born. We now have 9 grandchildren. All three boys and their families live within 3/4 of a mile of our home. Fishing, hunting, camping, shooting and Nascar is our way of life. I can retire from Ford Motor Co. any time but I enjoy my work and am not in any hurry to give it up.

Update 6/25/11: Retired from Ford Motor Co. April of 2009.  Enjoying 10 grandchildren daily. Married to the same girl for 40 some years...big deal these days. Won't make the reunion but will be thinking of BHS. Keep the website going.

I graduated from Duquesne University in 1965 and became a mathematics teacher.  Six days after I graduated I married my husband Richard.  I taught at Bethel until the December before my oldest daughter was born. Rich and I have five children and five grandchildren.  Since I taught at Bethel I have taught at Mt. Lebanon, University of Pittsburgh, and St. Bernard School in Mt. Lebanon.  Currently I am a full time mathematics tutor, who travels to the student's home to tutor.  I have 38 students
who keep me busy.  I love to garden and am very active in the Giant Oaks Garden Club (I am editor of their newsletter).  I am also active in my church where I do the women's club newsletter, as a extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and a lector. My husband Richard is retired and we are very happy in our ranch house in Peter's Township. If you come across any of my children they are Leanne- an electrical systems airplane mechanic in High Point, NC, George- a homicide detective for the city of Pittsburgh, Linda McGrath- a full time mother who is a physical therapist and married to Kevin McGrath-head gastroenterologist at UPMC, Grace Stipcak-visiting health care nurse in Indiana County and married to Tim Stipcak  one of the safety people for Pitt Ohio and the fire chief in the small town of Black Lick, and Gary- chemical engineer for Sherwin Williams Paints in Kentucky and married to Michelle-a realtor in Richmond, KY.

Update: June 7, 2011:
I am still a full time mathematics tutor. I generally go to the student's home and work with them for 45 minutes. Then, I am off to the next house. I am an active member in Giant Oaks Garden Club and co-president of the women's club at St. Benedict the Abbot Church. We now have 7 grandchildren. Since the last reunion, our son Gary and his wife Michelle have adopted twice, two girls from China. I am learning to use an embroidery sewing machine that I purchased last year.

The years have gone swiftly and My husband Ken and I have been a busy couple.  Ken retired from the Department of Defense Civil Service and I from teaching in 2001.  We are enjoying life on the Gulf Coast in Ft. Ken is a day site manager. I regret that we will not be able to join the 45th reunion festivities but send my best wishes for a memorable and joyous occasion.

Update 6/30/11: My husband Ken and I continue to live in Fort Myers, FL and enjoy the beautiful Gulf Coast. We are involved with community volunteer work, participating in the endowed scholarship programs at our respective universities, and promoting fund raising events for the Southwest Florida Symphony.

Attended Yale on an ROTC scholarship, graduated and spent the next 24 years in the Navy as a pilot (P3 Orions), eventually reaching the rank of Captain. Picked up Masters degrees in Poli Sci and Management along the way.  Tours in Pensacola, Hawaii, Japan, Newport RI, and the Pentagon (twice!)

Married Karen Lindquist (Frau Lindquist's daughter) and had one child.  Divorced after 5 years.

Remarried a California girl, Sue Fields and we had  two children.

Retired from the Navy in 1989, moved to California, became a Certified Financial Planner, a teacher (Political Science) at the community college level and an executive at a software company (not all at the same time)  Divorced, then met and married Jenny (she has two kids) and we bought a bed and breakfast inn in upstate New York.  Operated that for seven years, then sold in 2004 and returned to California where I now live with my mother-in-law and step son.  Since I'm retired military, I can fly all over the world on military transports, and every summer we spend two months (mostly in Europe).  When my stepson graduates from high school in two years, we hope to spend a lot of time on the road.

After graduating I attended Butler University in Indpls, IN for two years before marrying in 1963. I had three wonderful daughters and was divorced in '75. Those were tough years raising my three children as a single mother, but I consider that the single most productive thing in my life. All are graduates of Bethel Park H.S. and are all college graduates and leading happy successful lives. My youngest daughter, Tracey, was a member of the relay that helped the team win the 1987 Girls State
Swimming Championship.

I am still employed, but looking forward to retiring at some point. I love Pittsburgh, but would love to have warmer climate year around, so may look into moving closer to my daughter who lives in Destin Beach ,FL. In 2004 I was inducted into the Bethel Park Athletic Hall of Fame for my swimming accomplishments (representing our class of 1961). It was wonderful to be recognized. My sponsor was Bill Kennedy, who was my daughter's coach.

I will not be able to attend the reunion this year, but wish everyone good health and much happiness

Update: 9/1/11: Since my last entry, my daughter, Lisa, has returned from Florida so I again have all my family in the same state. So rather than a possible move to Florida, I moved to the North Hills to be closer to my daughter, Tracey, and her family (also my three teen age grandchildren ). Oldest daughter, Christine, still resides in Peters Township, so I do enjoy often returning to the South Hills.

I thought about retiring after my move (four years ago) and actually enjoyed being semi retired for a while, until I became so bored that I have recently joined the work force again and love the new structure in my life. I still swim occasionally and have found a new "love" of bike riding. I love being involved with my wonderful grandchildren and their many activities and experiences in their lives. Have been blessed with good health so will continue to enjoy every day as it comes.

Won't be attending our "50th" but wish all the best to my classmates.

After graduating from Penn State (State College) in 1965 with a major in Liberal Arts German, I went to Italy.  Here I met my husband, Massimo, a financial consultant, so Rome has been my home for the last 41 years!  We were married in 1968, and I taught English to foreign students until our first daughter, Samantha was born in 1971.  Since then I have enjoyed being a full time mother and homemaker.  Our second daughter, Shannon, was born in 1972, and Matthew completed our family in 1975. Every year I have returned to Pittsburgh to visit my mother (who will soon be 90) and my sister Elaine Christy (BPHS 1960) and her family. Since 1990 both of our daughters have been living in Atlanta, Georgia. Samantha got a BS and MS in Economics from Georgia Tech, and Shannon got a BA in Political Science from Georgia State and a MS in Economics from Georgia Tech.  Here they also met their husbands -  a reversal of my life!  Massimo and I try to spend at least 2-3 months a year in Atlanta with them and their families, and they visit us quite often here in Rome.  Luckily, Matthew works and lives in Rome with his family so we can see them every day without traveling thousands of miles.

Massimo and I are very happy and active grandparents.  We have 5 wonderful grandchildren Matthews 3 sons Damiano 6, Simone 3 and Christian 2, and Samanthas two- Aidan 3 and beautiful Haley 20 months, our first granddaughter.  Of course, we are looking forward to having a few more.

Please contact me if any of you are planning a trip to Italy.  Im sorry I wont be able to attend this reunion, but I will be looking forward to seeing your pictures, and I promise to be at the next one.

When my husband asked me to marry him, he said we would see the world...we moved to Cleveland and then Philadelphia.  My sons think this is a big joke because the Browns and Eagles are they're #1 enemies.  I have two sons Kevin, 35 and David, 33, who haven't quite gotten the knack of how to settle with one lady.  My daughter, Tara, however,is married and has given me two sons.  Joshua Allan is 3 and Andrew Richard is 18 months.  He was born 1 month after Dick passed away 1/05.  I'm adjusting to the single life slowly.  With a part time job with a State Farm agent
in Bethel Park, I keep in touch with real people.  I'm looking forward to this reunion as I haven't been to any of them.  See you in a few weeks.

Have to grown children. My son is living in California with an 18 year old grand daughter and a 3 year old grandson. My daughter moved back to Srhewsbury from Boston one year ago and has a 1 year old baby girl

Lost my husband in 2003 from a live time illness and I've kept our business running every since. We down sized the office, I purchased a home in Maine on the water and manage our income properties. Trying to slow down to 5 day weeks instead of 7 day weeks. Love gardening.

Sold large home downsized and remodeling this property now. New kitchen just finished....maybe I'll start cooking again....or maybe not. Who knows!

Married Gary Bruce in 1964. Moved to San Francisco, where Gary was stationed on the Presideo, in the Military Police. While there we managed a 34 unit apartment building owned by a retired Naval Commander, for a year. After discharge, we moved back to the Pittsburgh area, and had four children: Shawn 40, Jennifer 33, Christian 29 and Jeremy 25. We were blessed with our first grandchild on September 11,2004,a boy named Benjamin. I have worn many hats over the years from selling household products for Amway to Tupperwear, to cosmetics for Fashion Two-Twenty and Avon, to sharing a business making home decor items and jewelry with a friend for three years. When all children were in school, I started a home cleaning business 23 years ago, and am still working for families I've had from 5 years to 23 years. Ran for the Bethel Park School Board when I was 47, lost, but found it a great learning experience. Have some
other things in mind before I decide to retire, if I ever do go down that road. Keeping busy with learning experiences in life seems to work better for me. I spent 3 years singing with The South Hills Chorale, 30 years singing with The Harmony Singers (formerly Bob Laughlin Singers) and 3 years singing  with Three Rivers Chorale Society. For now, and well into the future, I'm looking to just enjoying my family and friends, and seeing what life has in store for me in the future. Will not be able to join you for this reunion, as we have a very important family member's birthday we are celebrating that night. However I am planning to join the group at the Holiday Inn Select on Sept. 22, if all goes well. Have enjoyed all the past reunions, and know this one will be as good as the others. Looking forward to the next one.

It doesn't seem possible that it has been 45 years since our graduation from BHS! Since then, I graduated from Kent State University (before it became
famous/infamous), married Guy and began teaching German in Akron. We spent 6 more years in Ohio, where two of our three children (Karen and Rick) were born.

In 1971 we relocated to northern New Jersey - 30 minutes from NYC. When our youngest (Jeff) reached kindergarten age, I return to teaching. For the past 20+ years I've been teaching history, government and economics at the same high school and for the past several years have been an adjunct at William Paterson University. In the meantime, I returned to school to earn a Masters degree in psychology and more recently a Doctorate in Education.  Our older son and our daughter are involved in business careers and Jeff is a Professor of Music at a Connecticut University. We have two grandchildren.

In August, Guy and I celebrated our 41st anniversary.  We're not ready to retire just yet, but when we do we'll head south to a better climate and lower taxes than New Jersey.  I'm sorry not to be able to attend this reunion, but I know you'll all have a great time.

Update 08/03/11: In 2007, we relocated to Sarasota, Florida where we are enjoying the beautiful beaches and the many activities this town offers. Although I retired from teaching high school history, I am currently teaching graduate Education courses at Argosy University and volunteering as a literacy tutor for those wanting to learn English. I am looking forward to seeing all of you for our 50th reunion.

Time seems to have passed so quickly.  It doesn't seem that long ago that I graduated from BPHS and entered Penn State where I earned a degree in forestry in 1965.  Subsequently, I attended Navy Officer Candidate School and received a Commission in the Navy where I served on an aircraft carrier for four years.

I then attended graduate school at Penn State where I conducted research on the effects of air pollution on plants, and received a PhD in plant pathlogy in 1975.  I married my wife Bobbie while at Penn State; she was working on a MS in French.  We subsequently lived in St. Paul, MN while I worked at the U of Minnesota, and in Fort Collins, Co while I worked for an environmental consulting company and was an adjunct at Colorado State University.

I joined the Boyce Thompson Institute at Cornell University in 1980, and conducted research on the effects of air pollution on agricultural crops, trees, and native species of plants.  I had long-term research projects in Alaska and Maine, worked on crops in Ithaca, NY, and traveled to China on two occasions to give lectures and seminars on environmental research.

In 2004 I snagged an early retirement and have been having a great time since.  I've been able to get back into activities that had been on the back burner for too long.  I work out 4 or 5 times a week, bike ride the hills around Ithaca, rock climb at the indoor wall at Cornell, and ski as much as possible, about 30 days last winter.  I'd rather have my body wear out than rust out.  I have also been doing some consulting work for the National Park Service and working on a couple of research publications I need to finish.

My wife works as a substitute teacher in the Ithaca School District; she loves the variety and flexibility of the job.  We have one daughter, Hannah, who graduated from Bryn Mawr College last May as an anthropology major, and is taking a year or two off before attending graduate school.

The last class reunion was really a lot of fun; it was great to see friends again and exchange stories about what happened over the years.  I'm looking forward to another great time.

Also, I want to thank everyone who dedicated their time and energy to organizing this event.  Your efforts are truly appreciated by all who attend.

Update: May 8, 2023

The Class of 1961 -- born in the era of World War II, raised in the unknown of the Nuclear Age, subject to the stress of Korea, Viet Nam, 9/11, the Gulf Wars, and Afghanistan, cultured by Rock and Roll, Elvis, Dylan, folk, Beach Boys, heavy metal, and rap, television (B&W, color and cable), the John F Kennedy inaugural parade followed a few years later by the JFK funeral cortege, IBM computers the size of a room running on punch cards, Apple desk-top computers running apps, a computer on your wrist doing most of what that IBM did, iPhones, attracted to evolving (and sometimes questionable) forms of computer-based social media, Sputnik, John Glenn, Apollo 11 moon landing, Columbia shuttle explosion, the Mars landers, the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes, Black Power, Freedom riders, MLK, January 6 Capitol invasion, Boeing 707, 747, electric cars, polio vaccine, birth control pills, grasping DNA genetics, quickly creating the Covid 19 vaccine, living through a global pandemic and various addictions, and experiencing mass shootings in every imaginable venue. Our Class has clearly experienced a time of amazing scientific discoveries, diverse forms of entertainment, evolving social and political change, inexplicable social and personal behavior, and the rise and domination of the digital age in all aspects of our life…. remember Sears and Roebuck, JC Penny, Life magazine and the daily newspaper?

I suspect that the scope and scale of social, political, scientific, and cultural events that the Class of ’61 has experienced will not be matched in the next 60 years. There is one major change on the horizon however that will likely condition our world in a manner never experienced in written history. These consequences will be major and severe and may serve as a test of civilization as we know it.

Read on. Many of the accomplishments of the past 60 years have been grounded in society’s exploitation of our resources and the environment with little attention paid to the accumulating negative effects of these actions. We are approaching the time in which we are going to experience the cumulative negative consequences of both those actions and our steadfast reluctance to take the necessary steps to effectively address climate change. Often when someone finds out that I have spent over 30 years conducting environmental research they ask me, “What do you think about this climate change thing?” I have a standard answer to give them, “Climate change is real, and its consequences are going to be significant and long lasting. Our children, grandchildren and likely great grandchildren are going to hate us because we knew what was coming and we also knew what we had to do to address it. However, we were too selfish and too unwilling to change our behaviors for their benefit. We decided to basically continue a lifestyle that aggravated the impacts of climate change and pass those impacts on to future generations.” I won’t blame them for hating us; we lived the high life and left them paying the bill.

For my personal update, my wife Bobbie and I still live in Ithaca, NY and have been quite fortunate over the past decade. Except for the expected wear and tear of the passing years, our health has remained basically favorable. She continues to take tap dance lessons and strives to get in as many steps a day as the weather permits. She also sings in the church choir and has been a substitute teacher in all schools in Ithaca for over 30 years. The pandemic put a major crimp in my morning workouts at the health club, but I walk daily, workout on the deck when the weather permits and ski in the winter. Speaking of skiing, climate change has made that into an annual roll of the dice with respect to natural snow, making snow and keeping snow on the ground. I have been doing lots of reading and a bit of writing also. Our daughter Hannah is married and living in Philadelphia where she works for the Trust for Public Land. Her husband, Bob, works for the US Census Bureau. We still have our cat Sweet Pea although she is getting up there in age. Bobbie and I have been quite cautious since the pandemic started and have not traveled much. Given that Covid seems to be developing into an endemic disease, I guess we will have to just accept it if we want to return to a more normal and diversified life.

My sister lives in Bethel Park and we get back there occasionally. Some aspects of the area have not changed too much while others are quite different. I have not seen much of the new high school but have heard that there have been some issues with the new construction. Hard to believe that the “new “ high school that the Class of 61 baptized is not only “old” but gone. In closing, hope all the remaining members of the Class of ’61 are doing well and looking forward to years ahead.
Take care, Bob

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to write something! (My wonderful cousin Kathy Lostetter shamed me into doing this).
* Spent 4 great years at Grove City College; graduated in '65. Went back last year for 40th.
* Almost 5 years in USAF following college; stationed in Caribou, Maine & Washington DC. Enjoyed the Air Force, but not much future for a "ground pounder" (non-pilot).
* Married my wife Paula (met at Grove City)in '66.  Still married (to her!).
* Went from USAF directly into the FBI in '70.
* Worked as an FBI Special Agent (criminal investigations) for 29 years.  Assigned to Boston, NYC, Monticello, NY, & Newburgh, NY offices. Loved the job.
* Retired from the Bureau in '99; took job as director of the Orange County, NY 9-1-1 system. Still there as of today.
* Hope to retire w/i two years (getting too old for the Emergency Services stress)
* Two sons - One is attorney w/US Dept of Justice in WDC; other is art director for publishing company in CT.
* One granddaughter, 2 mos old.  Don't see her often enough.
* Activities & interests - local Vol Fire Dept; Police groups; town boards; church; Friday Night Club w/my fellow retired & active agents.
* Whew!  This is like writing a resume - and I procrastinated so long, that no one will even read it!  But in the off-chance that someone does, I hope to see (and recognize) that person at the reunion.  (I'll study my class yearbook tonight.)

* Profile updated on Feb 5, 2011
* Retired from Orange County, NY Emergency Communications in September 2008.
* Now totally retired, and loving it!! No health issues. Love those pension checks!
* No problem keeping busy since still involved with all the activities previously listed, plus a couple more, like AARP Tax Aide Volunteer.
* Still married to same woman 45 years this December.
* Now have 6 year old granddaughter, 3 year old grandson, and twin granddaughters almost 3.
* Tomorrow is the Super Bowl. Go Steelers!!

Married D. Richard Funk, Attorney, July 23, 1977. Moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma - December, 1989
2 Children - Tracy (Nurse - runs a large hospice facility in Las Vegas, NV)
Danny - Golfer

2 grandchildren - Gabrielle & Victoria

In February, 2004 Opened a ladies boutique (Lynettesfashions.com)

Update: 8/18/11: My family says I need to write "more" than the several lines I previously wrote -- so, here goes

After graduation, I worked for a couple of law firms, married a CPA and had one daughter, Tracy. I divorced when my daughter was 1 1/2 years old. I interviewed and was hired for a position in the Federal Third Circuit District Court in Pittsburgh and worked for almost ten years for the Hon. Hubert Tietelbaum. During that time I married my wonderful husband, Rick (who was with the firm of Eckert, Seamans, in Pittsburgh. We had a son, Danny, who plays golf and travels wherever there's a tournament. My husband was offered a position with a Tulsa law firm and at the time I thought - "I've never been to Tulsa." It's pretty nice here - no Harsh winters, but there are Harsh summers, as evidenced by this year's 115!! I always loved fashion and the industry, so I opened my own boutique in South Tulsa - it's great fun and I enjoy the travelling to various Markets. October 10th our son Danny and his wife are expecting a baby - a boy - I already have a space in the boutique for a cradle. My husband and I play golf whenever we can - I am president of our Women's Golf Association and try to play a couple of times a week in the early morning. In Tulsa you can pretty much play year 'round. I am so looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks. Also, just wanted to say that the Committee for this reunion has done a fantastic job putting this all together - Thank you. See you in September....

One thing I forgot - I had my first hole-in-one on Sunday, July 3, 2011.

Update 04/10/2023: I remember when I thought 80 was old - now thinking its a little North of middle age....I lost my husband Rick of 44 years last year and this year in January, my daughter Tracy was tragically killed near her home in Las Vegas by a drunk driver. It's been a tough 1 1/2 years. I am still living in Tulsa with a son Dan and Grandson Oskar nearby. I play golf 3 - 4 times a week (not getting any better, but meeting people and having a lot of fun) I am blessed to be in great health except for an ankle twist on Hole #3 jumping around celebrating a birdie - Other than that, all is well. Trying to plan a trip to Pittsburgh this summer - looking forward to some great Italian food. Good wishes to everyone - Lynette

Since graduating from High School, I've had nineteen "permanent" addresses. I've had a rather eclectic career including stints as a Civil Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Accountant, Business Owner, Management Consultant, Stock Options Trader and Math Teacher. I chose semi-retirement 10 years ago and moved with my wife of 37 years to Alabama where we built our fifth house which we hope to be our last.

I still do a some teaching, consulting, and options trading. I have also perfected a technique for consuming 6 hours to accomplish a 1 hour task - and still not quite finish.

All the best to the Class of '61

WOW, 50 year reunion, hard to believe. I have had a great life. Married my husband Vaughn in 1965 after meeting at Clarion University. I have 4 grandchildren Zachary, 18 just graduated from Elizabeth Fwd, Autumn 13, My son finally got married for the first time @ 41. Has step son Oliver 5 and new granddaughter Katie 8 months old.

By his believing in me I have been able to have the confidence to push my career and teach graduate school at both the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University, I had the opportunity to tell him that before he died. Flickner gave me OJT by allowing me to teach his Economic Geography classes second semester. June 30, 2011 is the 12 anniversary of my retirement from the formal education

Currently I am involved with HELP Westafrica that works in Nigeria. We are involved in Health, Education and Literacy. I work with 19 children from 7-19, develop relationships with the Muslim/Christian bush tribes, works with an HIV-Aids clinic and work side by side assisting an orthopedic surgeon. First time to actually get hands into plates, drills, screws, stitches and other sort of wonderful experiences.

Currently I manage 400 volunteers for the Motoring Festival and Concours dElegance in Hilton Head, Chair the Education, Workforce and Community Outreach Committee of the Greater Island Council and some consulting work.

I remember when my mother told me that she was going to her 50th Reunion and I thought how long that was and now we are looking at it. She was a keeper and I am sending some items that each of you might find interesting. Our life has been blessed and I wish those blessings on each of you.
I will not be able to attend the reunion since I will be leaving for Nigeria at that time.

Thanks for the invite to the class reunion!  We had such a good time 10 years ago, loved seeing everyone and catching up!  It is with true sadness that we won't be able to make this one.  Here's a brief update which you are welcome to share all or part of with others.

We retired, sold our home in Colorado a couple years ago and hit the road as full time RV'ers!  We now live in a motor home, pull an HHR, and are traveling and experiencing America.  We spent this past winter in Arizona, then saw our two sons/wives and five grandkids in Colorado and Oklahoma this spring.  From there we spent 2 weeks in Branson enjoying Bluegrass and Barbecue Festival then up to Rapid City, SD for the summer.  In September we go back to Colorado Springs for annual maintenance with doctors and dentist.  From there we'll head south, seeing both sons/families on our way.  Our Oklahoma son is only 20 miles from Joplin, MO and we are planning to spend some time there helping wherever we can with tornado recovery/rebuilding.   We have also committed to service projects in south Texas for the winter months.  Hoping next spring to go up California coast and spend some time in northwest with family and college friend.

It's a great life and we are so blessed to be healthy and able to do it!  Sadly we sometimes miss opportunities like the reunion and seeing classmates....(I started to say "old" classmates but thought better of it!)  Hope this reunion finds you all well and still in the process of realizing life's dreams!  Phil and I, having met and fallen in love during that most special year in our lives treasure each of you as part of our true life's story!

God Bless!.....and Party On!!!!!
Rita

Update April 22, 2023:
We have continued to travel and RV till Covid time, 2020. Then we decided to have a home again and are settled just east of Durango, CO in Bayfield. Part of our family is here and lots of friends.

After high school I attended Waynesburg College and graduated in 1965 with a degree in accounting. That summer I married Karla Gleason (BPHS Class of 62). We will celebrate our 46th anniversary this September.
My first job was with Main Lafrentz & Company (a public accounting firm ) located in Pittsburgh. In 1967 I sat and successfully passed the CPA Exam. For the next 10 years I worked for several different companies in the area, (Ketchum, McLeod and Grove, Joy Mfg. Co. and Washington Penn Plastics ) as their Controllers or Vice President of Finance. In 1976 I purchased a tire company in Steubenville, Ohio (Johnnys Tire and Auto ) and still own and operate it. I travel 45 minutes daily to Ohio.

Karla and I have two sons, Glenn (42) and Jay (39). Glenn and his wife Kristin have three daughters (ages 13-11-9). He is Senior VP of Public Finance for PNC. Jay and his wife Gail have a 6 yr. old son and a 4 yr. old daughter. Jay is the Sales Manager for the family tire business . We are fortunate to have both families living within minutes of us in Upper St. Clair, where we have lived for the past 36 years.

Retirement for me is a little less work and a little more golf! (I dont think I will ever completely retire). We enjoy traveling and usually manage to fit in a round or two of golf wherever our travels will take us.

We are thankful for our health, our family and our friends and look forward to celebrating our 50th high school reunion with everyone.

In September 1961, I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps reserve program serving 6 months active duty and 7 years in a Ready Reserve unit located in Oakland, Pa. I ended my obligation as Supply Sergeant in June 1969. Returning from active duty in 1962, and for the next several years, I had a variety of jobs trying to find my lifes work. Even traveled across the country to Santa Monica, CA and worked for General Telephone Company; this was a common thing to do back in the early 60s. In March 1965, I joined Calgon Corporation as an assembly line technician and quickly found that manufacturing was my calling. My career with Calgon covered 34 years. I was fortunate enough to be Plant Manager for 3 of their manufacturing facilities; one of which was in Houston, TX where we lived for 4 years. I retired From Calgon in April 1999 as Facilities Manager for their Corporate Offices and Research Center in Robinson Twp. In June 1965, I married Becky Santmeyer from Baldwin. We met, of all places, at Eatn Park on Route 88, the local hangout. We have been married 46 years; have 2 boys Danny and David, 2 girls Rhonda and Jessica, and 9 grand children. One passion we both enjoy doing together is fixing-up/decorating our home; we are currently working on our 6th home. After retiring in April 1999, I took the summer off and basically played a lot of golf. Still wanting to work, in September that year I was hired by Dealer Parts Service Company on Industrial Blvd. in Bethel Park, a distributor of AC Delco and Motorcraft auto parts for new car dealerships, as a route driver. This was a great retirement job and I stayed there for 11 years, which ended February 2011. In March, Becky and I moved to Madison, OH to be near our daughter Rhonda and her family (she has an in-ground pool!). We have a home with a view of Lake Erie, and there are a lot of nice golf courses in the area. Life is good. I want to thank the alumni committee for all the work they do and the excellent job on creating the Class of 1961 website.

Sorry, I won't be able to be with you all this year.
I've been married for 46 years. We have three children and three grand-children, all living on the east coast.
I had a stroke last August. I'm doing very well now. Have forgotten a few things but they probably weren't that important anyway. I retired February, 2011 from Southern California Edison. But, still working part-time for them as a contractor.

We've sold our home, of 24 years, in California and will be moving to Laughlin, Nevada, full-time, by November. My wife and I plan to spend some months back east once we're moved. Time to get back to fishing again. Hope you all have a wonderful evening.

I am currently living in Tampa, Florida and have been for the past 17 years, the longest I have ever lived anywhere. I worked for IBM for over 32 years and retired in 1998 (also can't believe it has been that long!) I moved seven times in my career from one end of the country to the other and have been in all 50 states and lived in nine. I had a great time, lots of experiences and made wonderful friends all over the country. I never married and have no children but lots of adopted children through friends.

Since I retired (and never really planned to stay in Tampa but have planted roots) I have done some consulting, am very involved and am on the board of a service organization for seniors and done quite a bit of traveling.

My last big trip was to Egypt and Jordan in summer 2010. It was a wonderful and most educational trip. I am so glad I went when I did as I would not want to go with all of the turmoil in the Middle East. The history and architecture were unbelievable.

I do get to Bethel Park regularly as my Mom lived in her house until last fall when I moved her to Tampa. I recently put her house on the market and will be working on cleaning it out when there in September. My sister who lives in southern California is joining me to help.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and hope many are there.

Okay. So what have I been doing for the past 50 years? Let me see. Perhaps its easier to say what Ive not been doing.

Not having kids. Not doting over gorgeous grandchildren. Not playing golf or tennis. Not celebrating a long, successful marriage.

That said, I have had a fun and interesting life. After being kicked out of the University of Miami in the 60s (hard to do when it was still Suntan U., but I somehow managed), I then landed a job as a stewardess-in-training with Delta. Also got kicked out of that fine airline. Yes, my friends, I was a party animal back in the day. And I dont regret it for a minute.

Ended up back in Pittsburgh at age 20, where I got a job as receptionist with a pretty good ad agency KM&G. Within a couple weeks, the agency was looking for a copywriter trainee, and all that experience writing for Bethel Highs newspaper and yearbook really paid off. I got the job, and the rest is pretty much history.

Moved on to the advertising big leagues in Chicago and married an art director. (Marriage lasted 10 years, the career considerably longer.) Worked for some heavy-duty ad agencies like McCann Erickson and Bozell Jacobs. Wrote and produced TV spots for a bunch of clients - Canon cameras, Lipton soup, Heinz Ketchup, Six Flags, Butterball Turkeys, Frye Boots, Hefty Bags, Braniff Airlines, American Airlines, whew. The list goes on and on. The production experiences were extraordinary, taking me to exotic spots like a glacier on the South Island of New Zealand (for a yogurt commercial), Paris (for Calgon Bath Oil Beads), Talladega Race Track for a thrilling ride with Darryl Waltrip (for Gatorade) and the chance to fly around the country test riding all the major roller coaters (for Six Flags).

By 1988, I was burnt out. So my boyfriend (at the time) and I decided to chuck it all and move to Key West. I kid you not. Spent 3 years there as the editor of the towns weekly entertainment paper, Island Life. But I did miss the big city. So I moved up to Miami, freelanced for a while, then got a job as a senior copywriter at The Miami Herald, doing national print and TV campaigns for KnightRidder, the papers parent company. Retired a couple years ago, but still take on freelance when it comes along.

Last year I moved from Miami to Jacksonville to be closer to my little mountain hideaway in Seven Devils, North Carolina. Lately, the country has more and more appeal to me. So I drive back and forth between the city and the mountains to keep things interesting.

No, dont have kids, but do have two excellent substitutes an adorable Shih Tzu named Dexter (named after Showtimes infamous serial killer!) and an apricot toy poodle, Timmy (yeah, named the wheel-chair kid on South Park.)

Theres no question that Bethel High gave me an incredible kick-start. Paul Moshnik was a huge influence, as was Mr.Dimitrius (not sure of the spelling.) Both teachers recognized a spark of writing talent in me, and did everything they could to encourage it. I owe them, big time.

I wont be attending our 50th. I know it sounds silly, but I want to keep all you gorgeous boys and girls frozen in my memory as you were 50 years ago. I miss you. I think of you often. And I cant imagine having more fun and more misadventures than I did as a proud member of the notorious class of 61. My only regret those hideous sea foam green gym suits the Bethel High Powers That Be required us to wear.
OMG. What were they thinking?

Other than that, it was a ball.

Eileen

P.S. Next to Tom Conners profile, my life looks like a giant piece of fluff. On the other hand, he looks like the offspring of Gandhi and Mother Teresa. (Way to go, Tom!) I think we balance each other out.

Because I transferred to Bethel Park High School in the middle of our junior year, some of you might best remember me as Nancy Philips' cousin; an alias which I am proud to claim.

Having left high school with little idea what I wanted to do in life, I accidentally became a mining geologist and graduated from the Wisconsin School of Mines in 1966. By that time I was married to Thea Block, from Lombard, IL and continued on to graduate school at Montana Tech in Butte, MT where I received an M.S. in geology in 1969, We had our first son, Mark in Butte the same year.

After working for Homestake Mining Company in Creede, Colorado for three years and having our second son, Matthew, in 1970, I was interviewed and hired by Harbison-Walker Refractories in downtown Pittsburgh. We moved back to Bethel Park where our sons started school at Memorial Elementary.

After ten years in the mining business, I figured out that it was the business of mining that interested me more than the geology. So I went to the University of Pittsburgh where I received my MBA in 1979.

We moved that year to Idaho where I worked for Hecla Mining Company in Coeur d'Alene, ID for 23 years. I was the company treasurer when I retired in 2001.

This past August, Thea and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary and I can testify to living with a wonderful and beautiful woman, the love of my life.

Mark and Matt both graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, married Montana girls and have given us ten grandchildren. Mark is a software developer, after completing his BS in horticulture, living in Bozeman and working for Advanced Electronic Designs. Matt is an environmental engineer for Stillwater Mining Company and lives in Livingston, MT.

After retirement, I have been working four days a week as the business manager at our home church, Coeur d'Alene Bible Church.

Enjoy our 50th reunion and tell Nancy you read about her cousin.

After graduation from BHS I attended Kent State and met my future ex-husband. We married after my freshman year and separated after12 years -- divorced after 15. We have 2 really great children, a son now 47, married and living in Florida and a daughter now 42, married and living in Chesapeake (very close by). I also have 3 beautiful granddaughters courtesy of my daughter and her husband.

I seem to have ADHD as far as jobs go, so I had many. Finally I picked horticulture and went back to school a got a degree in landscape design and construction. Landscaping was my last and favorite job. It was living art in someones yard. My husband of 34 years used to tell people I dug ditches for a living. Now I just take painting classes --- not quite the same. It does, however, keep me up on the gossip in this small town. Fascinating what goes on here.

After my husband retires in about 9 years we may move to Florida. Those people know how to party.

Life has been good, but most of all it has been fun. Have a great reunion.

Looks like the Class of 61 had another great reunion that I missed due to previous commitments. This years was an engagement party (whats with that) in Florida. Thought I should add some info about myself. Married Judy Crossan, Class of 66 (Garys sister). Have three sons all living relatively close by with four grandkids. Happily retired since 2009 after 45 years in the engineering field. Wife is still working as a medical practice administrator and we still live in Bethel Park (within sight of the Sr. High).
